As we move into the New Year, there are a lot of unanswered questions in the world.
- Will Russia continue its murderous bombardment of The Ukraine?
- Will the Russian Army be routed back to its home country?
- Will a peace plan end the killing?
- How will China handle its latest COVID crisis?
- Will China invade Taiwan?
- Will inflation in the U.S. come under control?
- Will a recession be the result of tightening monetary policies?
- Will Congress pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform?
- Will a former President be criminally indicted?
- Will Tom Brady finally retire?
- Will Buffalo win its first Super Bowl?
- Will Purdue’s Men’s Basketball team win its first NCAA Championship?
Aside from such worldly questions, 2023 raises certain personal issues as well. It is my belief that our thoughts create our reality. Our future is largely dependent on our frame of mind, and we each have a choice whether to be loving or fearful.
Being a planner, I always enjoy this time of year. Rather than think in terms of “resolutions”, I prefer to think in terms of “opportunities” for the coming year. For me, 2023 is an opportunity:
- To join the exclusive Octogenarian Club;
- To complete and publish my newest book;
- To work on a history research project at the Allen County Public Library;
- To deepen relationships with Jan, family members, and friends;
- To make new friends;
- To become more involved in my Spiritual Community; and
- To take steps to remain healthy, active, and relevant.
So, I welcome the New Year and expect 2023 to be another great year.
